Week Beginning 13th April

We hope that everyone has had a great Easter weekend and is finding the websites which we posted last week helpful. This week we would like to suggest some activities which might help with fitness and well being.

Physical Activity

We know that many families will be trying to stay fit at this time. We previously provided details of the Real P.E website. The children have been following the Real P.E programme at school and can now access the website and access activities at home using the following detail.

The website address is: home.jasmineactive.com
Parent email: parent@howardprim-1.com
Password: howardprim

If you log onto facebook and join their closed group-you can then post photos of you and the family taking part in these activities. They have weekly competitions with winners announced on their facebook page. There are all sorts of different prizes so have a go!

Other useful sites for keeping fit are;

Health and Well-being

Click on the link below and you will be sent through to some amazing resources that will help create routines for children at home and different things children (supported by parents/carers) can do to keep happy and healthy-including looking after their emotional health. . Have a look at the well-being wheel-5 different daily tasks to keep your mind and body healthy during this difficult time (Day 6). This is updated daily so will be useful to keep looking back at the website whenever you can.

Supporting children’s mental health – Harold’s Daily Diary
Harold the giraffe is posting daily ideas. This is going down really well, particularly with younger children.

Reading

We hope that your child is being able to keep up with their reading and is finding the websites recommended last week helpful. In addition audio books for children are available at https://stories.audible.com/start-listen

Audio books can help children to access books at a level just above their reading ability. They also allow children to listen to stories while doing other activities or can just be an enjoyable way of accessing a story.

Music

Please see attached week 4 of the Out of the Ark music resources.

Year 4 Daily Home Learning Tuesday 31st March

Hi Year Four!

We are now into our second week, hopefully you are starting to find a routine and you are all keeping well. Thank you to those of you who have sent us videos and work to share on Class Dojo. We love seeing all the amazing things you are doing!

If you have not had a chance to check it out already, please have a look at Class Dojo and send us a message.  Please join us on this forum as you and your child can email us, send and receive photos, videos and see daily tasks in one place. We have sent all parents an email inviting you to join but this is a learning curve as we have not used the programme before so please let us know via teacher to parent if you have not received the invite and we will endeavour to contact you in a different way.

As always, continue to read, using Get Epic or your own books or books you have borrowed from school. We have added tasks to Mathletics and would love to hear about your experiences with Real PE and TT Rockstars.

Week Beginning 30th March 2020 (Year 3)

We hope everyone is well and that we are all getting used to working from home.  This week we suggest the following learning activities.

English

This week we had planned to teach a unit on poetry, for children learning at home we suggest the following activities.

  • Day 1 – Look at video clips of children performing poems from the BBC Poems off by Heart website https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00kmv68. Make a list of the things which make each performance good.
  • Day 2 – Read the poem Spaghetti, Spaghetti by Jack Prelutsky. Look for examples of rhyming and repeating words. http://www.ichild.co.uk/documents/activities/pdf/Key_ST2_Poems.pdf  Practice reading the poem aloud thinking about volume, tone, expression and pace.
  • Day 3 – Plan a poem about your favourite food. Use a spider diagram with the name of your food in the middle and descriptive and rhyming words around it.
  • Day 4 – Write a poem about your favourite food based on Spaghetti, Spaghetti.
  • Day 5 – Edit and up-level your poem and copy it up in your best handwriting.

Mathematics

Our topic for the week is statistics. Please use the sheets to complete the work in the maths books provided in the packs. Remember to put the date and a margin in your book!

This is a useful website that explains to parents what the children learn in the different year groups with handling data: https://www.theschoolrun.com/data-handling

Challenge – https://nrich.maths.org/2399/index  [Hint: use the bar chart to work out the amount of children in class 4, to help work out what the key is for the pictogram.]

Science

Find out about the scientist Albert Einstein. Make a timeline of Albert Einstein’s life. If you have access to a printer you could use the attached resource. If not you could draw your own timeline and write in some key facts.

25th March 2020

English and Topic work

For the rest of this week children should continue working on their newspaper article and their project on the Romans. They should also make sure that they read regularly at home.

Maths

1. To continue their learning on geometry in maths children should watch the following clip on angles.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zb6tyrd/articles/zg68k7

They should then make a right angle finder. This can be done by drawing and cutting out a circle, folding it into quarters and cutting out a quarter; or by using the link below.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t2-m-024-right-angle-finders

Children can then make a list of objects with right angles, acute angles and obtuse angles.

2. Below is a fun game to help your child with their learning on position and direction. Your child could print out and play the game (if you have access to a printer) or have a go at making a similar game themselves.

Physical Activity

During P.E lessons at school we follow a programme called Real P.E. They have now released a website so children can access this from home.

Real PE at home includes an online programme which supports families to be active, play and learn together. It includes a programme for children in Key Stage 2, with daily and weekly guidance provided in addition to an option to choose your own themes and activities.

There are so many benefits to being active, not only to our physical wellbeing but also to our emotional and mental health, especially in such testing times for all of us. We hope that the ideas help support you and your family to stay fit and healthy in the coming months. Here are the details to access real PE at home:
