[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#eef214″ border_width=”5″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]School breaks up for the summer holidays on Tuesday. We are aware that many children still have tasks to finish off from our previous class blogs so we have not set new work. We would suggest that children use the two days to catch up on work. We hope that the children will have as normal a summer as possible so that they arrive back at school in September feeling refreshed. We would, however, encourage the children to keep up with their reading over the holidays as a priority. We are also suggesting some websites that the children can use if they wish to continue with some learning at home. [/dropshadowbox]
Families might find the following websites helpful;

We will continue with one activity a day on Class Dojo, a selection of different activities using all the skills the children have learnt so far. Zoom lessons will also continue according to colour groups. Please check class dojo for details of your zoom lesson as the days may be subject to some changes this week.

Dear Parents
It’s hard to believe that we are now well into July! With only two and a half weeks left until the end of the Summer 2 term, we want to thank you for all your support with online home learning.
We have thoroughly enjoyed growing and developing alongside you and your child as we all learnt to cope with the challenges of online home learning, since April. It has been a very steep learning curve for us all (staff, parents and children) as we adapted our thinking to learn how to do things differently. We thank you for your unending support as you learnt how to use the amazing Class Dojo app, despite the many challenges you faced. We thank you for exploring the Zoom app to allow us to interact with you and the children. Most of all, we thank you for being both parents and facilitators of learning with your children and for doing such an amazing job of it all. Hats off to you!?
Over the remaining two and a half weeks, we will continue to provide Class Dojo learning. However these will reduce to one daily activity per day, referred to as the Monday or Tuesday Challenge, etc. This activity will be a combination of Super Sentence and Curious Cat challenges and all the other skills learnt throughout the year.
Zoom School will continue for both classes at 10am on each colour group day, with a final whole class farewell to you and the children scheduled for Wednesday 22nd July. We hope you will continue to join us each day.
Our learning for the week ahead is all about growing and changing, how we grow and change as humans; what are the different ways we change; the things we learn to do as we grow, that we couldn’t do before; and our hopes and wishes for the future.
Kind Regards,
Reception Team

What does healthy eating mean to you? Are some foods more healthier than others?
A healthy, balanced diet supports physical development, improves mood and keeps bugs at bay. Foods rich in vitamins and nutrients, like fruit, vegetables and whole grains, give children the fuel they need to develop both physically and mentally. Healthy eating also boosts our immune systems.

[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”20″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]
History:
This week, we are looking at two aspects of the past and comparing it to modern life – household items as well as school life.
Schools – In the past schools were very strict, all children sat in rows, teachers used black boards and chalk. Children used slates and chalk. They also had ink bottles , pens and blotting paper to absorb the surplus ink before turning a page. They did not have all the fun resources we use in school now – Interactive White boards linked to the internet, white boards, colouring pencils, felt tip pens, computers, maths resources…
Did you know Howard Primary School was built in 1897 and opened in April 1898? That is 122 years ago…
Check out this picture of a classroom from the past. Now, compare it to your class room. What is same, what is different?

– Chn make a list of 3 food items they like – draw them and describe it using noun phrases, expanded noun phrases
Eg Cool, creamy ice-cream
Ripe, red strawberries
Wobbly, orange jelly
Activity 2 – Plan and write a story using same pattern – Think of a title, beginning, sequence similar events in the middle and ending.
*Children can create own character and decide on one food they take secretly – eg pickled gherkins, spicy sausage, jalapeno peppers, spicy chicken wings, spicy meatballs, Mexican chicken, samosas. Marmite, lemon
*What other food will the main character try?
Eg – stale, brown bread/ cold, slimy pasta/ ripe, squidgy bananas / hard boiled sweets, cold, hard pizza slice

https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/list-4614.htm
This week our grammar is an integrated part of our daily lessons. We will learn about expanded noun phrases and rhetorical questions.
In English this week we will work towards creating an advertisement for the soup which the children made last week.
- Day 1 – Think of a name for your soup. Your name could include alliteration (e.g super soup) a rhyme (e.g chic leak soup) or a description (e.g spicy potato and chilli pepper soup.) Put the name of your soup in the middle of a spider diagram. Write around all the positive words you can think of to describe your soup (e.g healthy, crunchy, delicious).
- Day 2 -Follow the lesson on expanded noun phrases from BBC bitesize.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/znpbgwx
Now think of some expanded noun phrases to describe your soup (e.g a healthy soup with sweet carrots).
Day 3 – Look at the PowerPoint on rhetorical questions.
rhetorical-questions-powerpoint
Now complete the attached sheets. The sheets are differentiated children in Violet Group or Toy Story Group should use the one star sheet. The two star sheet should be right for most children. If you really want to challenge yourself you could have a go at the three star sheet.
rhetorical-questions-differentiated-activity-sheets-english_ver_2
Now think of a rhetorical question you could use for your soup advert (e.g are you looking for a soup that’s both healthy and delicious?)
- Day 4 – Plan a magazine advert for your soup using the persuasive words, expanded noun phrases and rhetorical question you have thought about this week.
- Day 5 – Now create your magazine advert for your soup using your plan and illustrations. You can use the template below or create your own.
Reading
Children should continue to read as much as possible. Don’t forget we have a free trial from Reading Planet which allows us to allocate appropriate leveled books for each child.
The child should use their first name as their log-in and their class name as their password (either Blackfriars or Waterloo). They will need the centre ID 211526. The website address is;

Latin- A tough lesson this week, having a go at pulling together all of our previous learning and trying out our translation skills. We start off with familiar exercises, root words, quickfire verbs and chanting our verb endings. When translating sentences remember the Golden Rule:
Latin words rely on word endings, not word order
The same is true of adjectives, the ending matches the noun they belong to.
If you find the vocabulary tricky, use the picture clues to help. You can always message me on Dojo if you need a hand. The answers to the translation exercises are on the following slides. Latin-pulling it all together
As always, please do not stress about doing every task, try to do a little work each day. Do not feel you have to print everything out. We hope you have fun with your learning and we look forward to seeing your posts on Class Dojo!
