This week our learning will be as follows;

English

Spellings – learn the following spellings: February certain height history imagine increase. Remember you can use look, cover, write, check or play a game such as hangman to help you learn your spellings.

Children who are in Violet group (Waterloo) or Toy Story group (Blackfriars) for English should work on:  there, their, they’re, to, too and two.

Punctuation- Learn how to use apostrophes correctly using the following lessons from BBC bitesize daily. Children in Violet group or Toy Story group may wish to do the first lesson only then spend time practising using apostrophes to combine words.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z4p2mfr

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmq9kmn

Information texts – This week we will begin a new unit of work on information writing. We will aim to produce a leaflet about Queen Boudicca before the Spring half term holiday.

If you are in Roderick Hunt group (Waterloo) or Toy Story group (Blackfriars) you may find this link helpful. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/?view=image&query=&type=book&age_group=Age+5-6&level=&level_select=&book_type=Non-fiction&series=#

  • Day 2 – Look at the picture below. Make some notes. Who do you think this is? What do you notice about them?

Boudicca with a spear

  • Day 3 – Use the link below to find out about Queen Boudicca and her revolt. Watch the video clip, read the text and have a go at the activity.  Create a spider diagram of what you have learned about Boudicca from the video clip. Make sure your spider diagram is a good size so that you can add to it tomorrow. (Some children may need support with key spellings).

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zkrkscw/articles/zhn6cqt

  • Day 4 – Watch the following video clip. Is there anything new you have learned about Queen Boudicca? Add the new facts you have learned to your spider diagram.

  • Day 5 – Look at page 4 of the PowerPoint from day 1. Notice that the sub-headings take the form of  questions. Write down 6 questions which you can answer using the information from the Boudicca and the Roman invasion video above. (Children in Violet group or Toy Story group may find that 4 questions is sufficient.)

Reading – in addition to the reading activity suggested for Day 1 children should read regularly at home and should try and include both fiction and non-fiction writing. We have suggested the following websites.

https://elinkeu.clickdimensions.com/m/1/11332944/p1-b20093-53b482e90cd648ccaa49935478b1f717/8/883/4c7b9c08-3af1-44cf-ba27-8d2173a4651f

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/

In addition, the Barrington Stoke website is now offering some free resources. These are suitable for dyslexic children but also for any child who finds reading more difficult. The texts allow children to access easier texts which have age appropriate content.

Maths

It has been lovely to see all your hard work on fractions, we have now finished that unit and are moving onto money. It would be helpful to use actual coins/ notes to help the children complete the work, however if you do not have access to all the coins you may wish to use this word mat to remind the children of the different amounts – Coins word mat

  • Day 1 – converting pounds and pence

Please watch the video below and then complete the worksheet – Converting pounds and pence

  • Day 2 – adding money

Please watch the video below and then complete the worksheet: Adding money

Week Beginning 4th May

[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#f4f045″ border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]We are now entering our seventh week since school closed for most children. We can see from the work you have submitted that many children are in a routine and are doing some great learning. We also recognize that some families are finding this more difficult as time goes on. It is important that children continue to be in a routine and that they are doing learning they are proud of. Please don’t worry if your child can’t complete all of the work which we suggest. Remember that Friday is a bank holiday so you may want to do something different on that day.[/dropshadowbox]

This week our learning is as follows;

English

Spellings – learn the following spellings:  describe, mention, answer, appear, actually, extreme.

Children who are in Violet group (Waterloo) or Toy Story group (Blackfriars) for English should work on:  here, went, were, was, look, off.

Handwriting – Don’t forget that in school our target was handwriting. Handwriting in year 3 should be clear, joined and legible. Try copying out your spellings in your best handwriting. You can also use the following exercises to help you with your handwriting.

t2-t-1020-ks2-fine-motor-handwriting-warm-up-exercises-information-cards

Narrative – Children should continue to work on their own version of the Romulus and Remus story as follows;

  • Day 1 – Write the middle of your story including the build up and problem which you planned in your story mountain last week. Dont’ forget to write in paragraphs and use a range of punctuation including inverted commas around direct speech.
  • Day 2- Write the end of your story including your resolution of the problem and ending. Check your work carefully paying particular attention to spelling, punctuation and consistency of tense.
  • Day 3 and 4- Make a book. you can use one of the ideas in the link below or an idea of your own. Copy out your story in your best handwriting and use pictures to illustrate your story.

Primary-Make-and-Do-Make-Your-Own-Books-KS2

Don’t forget that you can scaffold children who find writing difficult by giving them key spellings and asking them to orally rehearse their sentences. Children who have the potential to be greater depth writers should be paying extra attention to editing and up-levelling their work and thinking about the effect of their sentences.

Reading – Children should follow the poetry reading lesson in the link below;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zb2k8xs

Children should continue to read regularly and try to read as wide a range of fiction and non-fiction as possible. They can use traditional books or e-books from one of the following sites:
