  • In science we will investigate pushes and pulls.
  • In history we will find out about Early Humans.

[dropshadowbox align="none" effect="lifted-both" width="auto" height="" background_color="#ffffff" border_width="20" border_color="#242ee8" ]What to expect in your first week ?

Please note that due to a review of our safety procedures there have been a few minor changes to the information leaflet which most of you received during our home visit.

When you arrive at the START of a session:

  • Please enter the school via the Dering Place main entrance ONLY as all other entrance gates will be locked by the time you arrive.
  • When you arrive via the main school gates on Dering Place, please proceed through the large green gates on your right. Follow the pathway and stairs leading up to the Early Years Reception outdoor area.
  • Please wait in this area outside your child's class until staff open the classroom doors.
  • Please enter with your child and staff will show you where to hang up their coat, spare clothes and PE kitbags in the corridor. Chelsea Class coat pegs are on the left and Grosvenor Class coat pegs on the right.
  • Place book bags in any of the green boxes provided outside each class.
  • Staff will guide you back to the classroom where you will help your child to find their name card to self-register
  • Please stay and settle your child in an activity and leave when they have settled, returning at the end of the session to pick them up.
  • When you leave, establish a simple, short parting routine to reassure your child that you will see them later at home time. Should your child remain distressed for a prolonged period of time, we will contact you.
  • When you leave the class, please exit via the class double doors and walk along the side pathway towards the Dering Place exit. Please do not leave via the internal doors as school will be in session for other children.
  • Please note that the central door is a fire exit door and should only be used in case of emergency.

When you arrive to pick up your child at the END of a session:

  • Please wait in the outdoor area while staff prepare children for home time.
  • Please be patient during the first few weeks as this process may take slightly longer as we get to know and recognise faces and names.
  • Staff will only call your child to the class door when they see you or the named person who will be collecting your child.
  • We will not send your child home with any other person unless you have authorised this in writing.
  • Please wait further back from the class door and try not to crowd around the entrance. This allows children to see their parents when their name is called. If you would like to speak to the class teacher please wait until most of the children have been picked up as this is a very busy time and our full attention will be on the children to ensure their safety.

We would like to invite you to join us at our Reception Sports Day on Tuesday 16th July. Please send your child dressed in their PE kit on Tuesday. They will not need their bookbags or uniforms on Tuesday. School lunch will be provided for the children at 12.00.

The school gate on Dering Road will open at 10.15am for parent entry. Reception Sports Day is organised and led by trained Year 6 pupils who will lead the children around a circuit of activities arranged around the Key Stage 1 and 2 playgrounds. So when you arrive, please ask a member of staff or Year 6 sports leader to locate the activity station where your child will be. Please follow your child’s colour group around the circuit of activities and help cheer them on. Reception Sports Day will end at approximately 11.45 and we will gather together to congratulate the children.

At Reception Sports Day all children are winners because they all take part. We encourage all parents to support this ethos as the children develop their understanding of good sportsmanship. You may say a quick goodbye and congratulations to your child before we lead them off to lunch at 12.00. We hope you enjoy the morning with us.
