What we will be learning

English-We will be summarising capters of Wolves of Willoughby Chase

Maths-We will be learning how to reflect images in horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.

PE-We will be continuing Volleyball and yoga.

DT-We will be designing and making Egyptian inspired masks.

Damara is Southwark class reader of the week. Solly, Chaimae, Lillian, Bianca, Sofia and George all received merit cards from Southwark clsss. Nisa, Kerem, Harry, Sh’zane, Pyman and Maja all received merit cards from Millennium class. Well done and very successful week.

Week beginning 17th June

Writing

We will be writing our own police reports before moving onto our new key text: The Fisherman and His Wife. Thank you for reading this with your children over the half term; it will really benefit our learning.

Maths

We will be recapping money (finding different combinations to make the same amount and problem solving), recapping time and problem solving with fractions.

Art

We are hoping to link our work on hot and cold colours to geography and will be looking at hot and cold countries in relation to the equator.

Geography / science

We will be consolidating our understanding of habitats around the world using maps with different animals on them. For example, your children should now know that a polar bear cannot live in a desert habitat and why.

Science

We will be exploring the Arctic habitat. We will also be looking at how humans can keep healthy e.g diet, hygiene and exercise.

PE

We are going to be making the most of the good weather this term. We will be doing ball skills with tennis/ basketball and skipping.

Theme: The Farm

LITERACY:

Book Focus: Farmer Duck by Martin Wadell

The children will enjoy this delightfully engaging and slightly quirky tale about a very hardworking duck and an incredibly lazy Farmer. It will contribute well to our discussions this week about working well as a team and how we can help each other to build a stronger class team. Also it will serve as a wonderful introduction to our learning about farm life ahead of our trip to Godstone Farm next week.

Group Phonics: This term we will focus on reading words and sentences containing all the phonemes the children have learnt throughout the year and we will be teaching strategies for instant blending of words and strategies for reading longer multisyllabic words.

UW – Knowledge and Understanding of the World During the next two weeks we will explore the different animals that live on farms. The children will learn to identify similarities and difference between adult and young farm animals and between farm animals and pets or wild animals.

MATHS: This week we focus on patterns and shapes. Naming and talking about properties of shapes and making and explaining patterns of different types.

PE: Athletics – taking on roles of being athletes, spectators, coaches and starters in different athletics events [/dropshadowbox]

Welcome to Summer Term 2 -Week 3.

Wow! Year 1 our children have completed their Phonics Screening Check. All the parents will receive a letter regarding the test results soon! Enjoy our children’s success and have a great weekend.

Our Learning for this week…

English

Poetry – We will be reading another poems and recap and discuss the key features of a poem. Then, we will support children to plan, create and publish their own poems.- ‘Magic Box’.

Maths

First, we will complete Volume and Capacity. Then, we will be focusing on Money. Children will be using out-door area to explore their learning.

Science

Children will be naming and identifying plant parts we eat. Example: roots, leaves, stems, seeds, flowers. We will be listening and learning ‘ Plant alphabet song’.

Geography

Children will name, locate and identify characteristics of the 4 countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding season Maps-Atlas work.

P.E

We will be supporting children to master basic skipping skills. We will encourage them to develop foot patterns that aid skipping.

PSHE

Children will learn to talk about their feelings. Discussion about Big/small worries – How can we get help?  What can we do?…. We will be reading the text -‘ The Huge Bag Worries’.

R.E

We will be looking at Hinduism- Hindus believes about God.

This week –  Home work:– Hinduism.

Week Beginning 17th June 2019

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will work on addition and subtraction. We will use mental methods to add 1s, 10s and 100s to 3 digit numbers and then move on to using column addition/subtraction and solving problems using money.
  • In English we will write our own version of Dream Big by Deloris Jordan. We will make our own dreams the focus of the story.
  • In science we will learn how to carry out a health check on another person.
  • In topic time we will make our own nut free muesli using our recipes that we have developed.

Year Four Weekly Blog Week Beginning 17th June 2019

This week year four will be learning:

Literacy-This week we will be learning about using speech punctuation in our writing.

Maths-We will be learning to identify symmetry in shapes in different orientations. The children have particular enjoyed using this game in lessons to classify shapes.
