Red Nose Day: Friday 24th March 2017.
For a donation of £1 children can:
- come to school dressed in something red eg. a red t shirt, jumper, leggings or trousers
- take part in our fun obstacle course especially set up for Reception classes.
Each class is hoping to collect a minimum of £30 for this Comic Relief charity event. Red Noses are available for purchase at the school office so please support us by buying your red nose from the school. [/dropshadowbox]

Please continue to write a comment in your child’s yellow reading diary and let us know how they are getting on with their reading at home
MATHS:
The children are really enjoying the role play shop in the classroom and are exploring the different ways they can pay for items and using the language related to money such as ‘pounds’, ‘penny’, ‘pence’, ‘cash’, ‘pay by card’, ‘how much’, ‘buy on get one free’, ‘on sale’, ‘how much change’, etc. Please encourage your child to join in with the weekly shopping by getting them to write shopping lists or check prices when you are at the shops.
This week will also introduce the concept of capacity and the associated language such ‘full, empty, half full, etc.
PSED- Personal, Social, Emotional Development
This week we will discuss the people who are special to us and how we can show that we care about them.
UW – Understanding the World

THIS WEEK’S LEARNING:
LITERACY:
Book Focus: Traditional tales – Three Billy Goats Gruff.
The children really enjoyed role playing this story. They delighted in constructing pretend bridges across the classroom so they could act out their favourite scene from the story. They especially enjoyed composing imaginative sentences to describe the mean and nasty troll who lived under the bridge.
This week we will conclude our learning about this story by focusing on the where the story is set. We will paint pictures and write descriptive sentences about the place where the Billy Goats Gruff lived.
CAL- Communication and Language:
Word of the Week: Each week we will learn a new word. We will explore the meaning of the word and discuss other words that share the same meaning. To extend their vocabulary and develop their use of language, we will encourage the children to use these words when they speak and write.
This week’s WoW: tasty (delicious/scrumptious/yummy/juicy/mouth -watering)
eg The goats want to eat the juicy grass.

We are quite impressed with how well the children are progressing through their key word lists. Keep sending them in and keep up regular practise of the tricky words as these are words that can be easily forgotten. Regularly go back through previous lists to check that your child can still recognise the words learnt earlier on.

UW – Understanding the World
This week we will introduce the concept of growth and changes over time by growing cress seeds and observing how they change over the course of the week. The children will be able to bring their cress plants home once fully grown.
