THIS WEEK’S LEARNING:
LITERACY:
Book Focus: Traditional tales – Three Billy Goats Gruff.
We will read the story and recall the main events by creating a story map. The children will explore descriptive language as they write descriptions of the characters from this popular traditional tale.
PHONICS:
We are revising Phase 3 di/trigraphs – ch, sh, th, qu, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, air, ear, ure, er
We are also continuing to develop their skills for blending cvc words by first identifying any ‘special’ sounds then blending to read the words containing di/trigraphs
KEY WORD LISTS:
Well done to all the children who are progressing really well through their key word lists. Please continue practising with them every day and send in when they are ready to be tested. Please place the word lists in the green box outside Chelsea Class if children are ready to be tested.
READING AT HOME
Now that your child’s phonics knowledge is developing you should start to see them applying this knowledge when they are reading with you at home. Please continue to encourage them to look for the key words they have been learning in all the books you read with them at home.
If your child is struggling with blending cvc words here is a video to try at home:
MATHS:
This week we will also be introducing the concept of money. We will focus on recognition of coins and notes used in Britain. We will continue to review using a 0-20 number line to find one more or one less than a given number.
Communication and Language Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Throughout this term we will focus on developing the children’s sense of independence by encouraging them to solve minor disagreements with peers independently by using ‘their words’. We will support them though this by modelling the language and strategies they will need to use such as looking at the listener/speaker and using a strong voice when they speak to each other.
