AUTUMN 2 TOPIC: Light and Dark
THIS WEEK’S LEARNING
LITERACY:
- Core Text: It was a cold dark night by Tim Hopgood
- Phonics learning: This week the children will be in group phonics lessons which will continue to work on blending and reviewing previously taught sounds. Please check Google Classroom for homework relevant to your child’s group.
MATHS:
Mastering Number: This week the children will:
- continue developing 1:1 correspondence
- practise counting each object, action or sound once and only once
- make collections of 5 in different ways
UW & CAL: Continuing with our theme of light and dark, we will begin the week by developing an understanding of night and day. We will then move on to exploring and discussing what it means to be ‘nocturnal’ and identifying different nocturnal animals. We will also explore how shadows are formed.
EAD: We will be engaging in a variety of crafts relating to our learning of night and day and nocturnal animals, including creating our own night time collages and nocturnal animal puppets.
PE: Dance: To copy and repeat a short set of controlled movements and actions.

Anti-Bullying Week.
On Monday 14th November, we will participate in ‘Odd Socks Day’. The aim of ‘Odd Socks Day’ is to celebrate what makes us all unique individuals. Children may wear a pair of brightly coloured odd socks to school on Monday.

- Phonics learning: This week the children will be in group phonics lessons which will continue to work on blending and reviewing previously taught sounds. Please check Google Classroom for homework relevant to your child’s group.
MATHS:
Mastering Number: This week the children will:
- compare 2 sets of objects and say which is ‘more than’ or ‘fewer than’
- represent a given number on their fingers without looking.
PSED & RHE: To discuss the concept of ‘Bullying’ and what it means to be a kind friend.
CAL: Read ‘Ruby’s worry‘ by Tom Percival and share strategies for dealing with worries.
UW: Road Safety Week : To talk about how to keep safe when crossing the roads
EAD: Making hedgehogs using salt dough and spaghetti.
PE: Dance: To copy and repeat a short set of controlled movements and actions.
FOREST SCHOOL: After all children visiting the forest last week for an introductory session, this week we will begin whole class forest school sessions with Mrs Simion. Remember these sessions will alternate each week. This week is Chelsea Class.
