Week Beginning 21st November

November 21, 2021

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will begin a new unit of work on multiplication and division. This week we will revise our skills in multiplying by 3 and learn to multiply and divide by 6.
  • In English we will continue our work based on the Ice Palace by Robert Swindells.
  • In science we will identify the organs of the human body involved in digestion.
  • Our blocked foundation subject this week will be history. We will conclude the work which we began last half term, on Ancient Greece.

Both year 4 classes will do PE on Wednesday and Millennium Class will also have PE on Friday. Children should come to school in PE kit on those days.  Southwark Class will swim on Tuesday.

Last week we sent home some envelopes containing information about the Cues-Ed programme which we will be taking part in as part of our work in Relationship and Health Education. All children will take part in the programme but we need parents permission for the children’s data to be anonymously used in the study. Further information was in the envelope with a permission form. We would be grateful if all parents could write their child’s name on the envelope and return the form to the school within the envelope.  It would be really helpful if parents could reply, whether or not they give consent.

Week commencing 22nd November

November 19, 2021

Time is flying past! Thanks for all your help and support so far, we are having a great half term!

Here’s what we will be learning next week:

English- We will be continuing to build vocabulary and reading skills in our grammar lessons on Monday and Friday. The focus for grammar this week is descriptive writing with emphasis on suffixes such as -less or -ful; in our reading skills, we are looking at meanings of words and synonyms. Our class text is Into the Forest by Anthony Browne and we are working on descriptive writing.

Our class read is The Boy with the Bronze Axe by Kathleen Fidler.

We will be beginning to send home reading books on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for those children who have not already chosen them. Reading diaries should be brought to school each day.

Maths- We will be continuing to work on column subtraction this week, consolidating the concept of exchanging. We will then be moving on to right angles, beginning with a look at quadrilaterals and triangles and identifying vertices.

If your child would like to practise their learning at home, there are lots of free games which they can use, including Daily 10 from Topmarks or Hit the Button

PE- We will be continuing to work on skipping and basketball skills this week.

History- We will be continuing our Stone Age to Iron Age topic, looking at Skara Brae and the building of Stonehenge. We will then be thinking about the impact of the discovery of bronze on Bronze Age society.

Science- We will be beginning a new topic about light, starting with a brainstorming session.

Homework- We will post homework on Google Classroom each week. We have added tasks to Mathletics. Additionally, the children will have access to Language Angels to practise their new vocabulary in Spanish. We hope to give your child access to TTRockstars also this week, a fun way to practise times tables.

PE will take place on Monday and Tuesday for Blackfriars class and Tuesday and Thursday for Waterloo class. Children should come to school in their school PE kits on those days.

RHE- We are thinking about the impact of bullying and what we can do to prevent it.

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day.

Lastly, if you have any questions or concerns, please speak to a member of staff or email us at the address below;
