What we will be learning in Year 3 this week:

English- We will be continuing to read the story of Ug Boy Genius of the Stone Age by Raymond Briggs. This week we will be comparing our opinion of the characters now to our initial impressions at the start of the term. We will be trying to understand Ug and how he might be feeling. We will then be beginning to plan and write a diary entry written in role as Ug, considering how he might feel about the events of the story.

Our class read is The Boy with the Bronze Axe by Kathleen Fidler. Children also have access to a range of Raymond Briggs books which allow them to explore more of his writing.

We will be beginning to send home reading books on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for those children who have not already chosen them. Reading diaries should be brought to school each day.

Maths- We will be continuing to work on place value, bridging multiples of 100, counting in 2s, 5s, 20s, 25s and 50s to 1000, adding 2 digit numbers crossing over the hundreds boundary, adding 2 3-digit numbers both with and without adjusting and addition using redistribution.

Some of the representations we will be using are;

If your child would like to practise their learning at home, there are lots of free games which they can use, including Daily 10 from Topmarks or Hit the Button

PE- We will be continuing to work on football skills and footwork skills in our lessons.

Geography- We will be using an atlas to locate countries and cities in Europe, thinking about the physical features of the UK and recapping the countries of the UK and taking part in an exciting orienteering session led by students in Year 5..

Science- We will be investigating the strength of different types of magnet.

Homework- We will post homework on Google Classroom each week. We have added tasks to Mathletics. Additionally, the children will have access to Language Angels to practise their new vocabulary in Spanish. We hope to give your child access to TTRockstars also this week, a fun way to practise times tables.

PE will take place on Monday and Tuesday for Blackfriars class and Tuesday and Thursday for Waterloo class. Children should come to school in their school PE kits on those days.

RHE- We are continuing to consider the importance of our rights and responsibilities in school and considering how these could be used to introduce a learning charter.

We are lucky to have been given a motivational message for the children at Howard from a member of the Arsenal team. We would like to take this opportunity to share it with you all.

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day.

What we will be learning in Year 3 this week:

English- We will be continuing to read the story of Ug Boy Genius of the Stone Age by Raymond Briggs. This week we will be comparing Ug’s world to the world today, imagining what Ug’s Stone Age community might look like and how it is different from ours. After that, we will be imagining how the future might be different to the modern world. We are going to write descriptions and compare our ideas about past and future communities. We will then be thinking about the strangeness of modern items to a Stone Age person and considering how we could describe and define them to someone who was not familiar with them.

Maths- We will be continuing to work on place value, partitioning numbers in different ways, adding tens and ones to make hundreds and bridging multiples of hundreds.

Science- We will be sorting magnetic and non-magnetic objects.

Homework- We will post homework on Google Classroom each week. We have added tasks to Mathletics.
