THIS WEEK’S LEARNING:
SPRING TERM 1 TOPIC: Transport
LITERACY:
Book Focus: The Naughty Bus by Jan and Jerry Oke
The children have shown much enjoyment for creating their own adventures of the Naughty Bus so we will continue with this book for one more week, exploring the children’s ideas for more new adventures.
PHONICS: This week’s new digraphs: /sh/, /th/ and /ng/.
By the end of this week the children will begin working in smaller groups during Phonics lessons. This is to ensure that the children learn phonic skills at the pace at which they are making progress. We will continue to send daily Phonics reading homework. Please continue to practise skills for blending to decode the words sent home. Please do not return these sheets to school, they may be kept at home for further practice.
MATHS: This week we will continue to develop their understanding of the language related to addition and focus on skills for problem solving. [/dropshadowbox]

This week’s homework: Create your own vehicle
Can you draw your own idea for a vehicle that transports people from one place to another eg a flying car or a ship that moves on land? What special features will your vehicle have? eg wings/skates?. Ask your adult to help you label your design.
Key word lists: Please leave word lists in the green box when your child is ready to have their word list checked. Please note that we will check each word list twice to ensure that your child can read these words skilfully before issuing the next list.
Show and Tell : Due to popular demand from the children we have introduced a show and tell session. The children have been very keen to share items they have made at home or new toys they have received. It provides an excellent opportunity for them to develop their confidence and self-esteem by speaking in front of an audience of their peers. This will also support the development of their speaking skills. To ensure every child has an opportunity to share something we have allocated each group to a day when they can bring in something to show and tell. Please note that you do not have to send something in every week. Group days are the same as the days when they change reading books (see below)
Books for home reading: Please ensure reading books and diaries are in book bags on these days:
Mondays- Red group
Tuesdays- Blue group
Wednesdays- Green group
Thursdays- Orange Group
Fridays – Yellow group [/dropshadowbox]

THIS WEEK’S LEARNING:
SPRING TERM 1 TOPIC: Transport
LITERACY:
Book Focus: The Naughty Bus by Jan and Jerry Oke
The children really enjoyed role playing the mischievous adventures of the naughty bus. This week we will develop their ideas and write about alternate adventures for the naughty bus. Where else could the naughty bus go?
PHONICS: This week the children will learn a few new digraphs (2 letters which make one sound). We often refer to these (with the children) as ‘special sounds’. This week’s sounds are: /x/, /y/, /z/, /qu/ and /ch/ We will continue to send home a sound sheet each day for each new sound. Please practise letter formation with your child and keep these sheets at home.
MATHS: We will continue to revise number recognition and counting skills. This week we will continue to use the language involved in addition. The children will practise finding the total number of items in two groups by counting all of them.
TOPIC: The children will be discussing different types of transport and the different ways in which they travel to school.[/dropshadowbox]
[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”15″ border_color=”#38e83f” ]HOMEWORK:
This week’s homework:
Journey to school
Draw a simple map of your journey to school? Which places do you pass, which types of transport do you see?
KEY WORD LISTS:
Your child will have received their animal word lists. These are the key words that occur most frequently in books your child will read in Reception and beyond. The word lists are designed to encourage your child to learn to read these words in a fun and engaging way so they can instantly recognise them in the books they read.
Please check bookbags for animal word list folders which contain a useful information sheet for parents. Please only send in lists if your child is ready to be tested. There isn’t any rush for your child to race through the lists. It is more important that they have secure recognition of these words before moving onto the next list.
