Summer 2 Week 1

TOPIC: Summer’s here!
Our topic in this last term covers the following themes which revolve around the joy and fun of summertime:
- Under the sea
- At the beach
- Growing
- The Weather
- Summer fruit
- Summer games
- At the park
THIS WEEK’S LEARNING
THEME: Under the sea
LITERACY:
Book Focus: The Rainbow Fish
The children will read and discuss the key events of this delightful story about an amazingly beautiful fish that learns an important lesson about sharing.
PHONICS:
The children will continue to be grouped for Phonics and will bring home phonics homework appropriate to their level of learning.
READING AT SCHOOL
During guided group reading sessions the children are working on key skills for reading such as finger pointing under each word to keep track of words; using picture clues and sound blending to decode unfamiliar words. We are also assessing children’s understanding of what they have read.
READING AT HOME
Please continue to write a comment in your child’s yellow reading diary and let us know how they are getting on with their reading at home. Please ensure that books are in book bags on the days listed below.

MATHS:
This week we will review skills for recognition, counting and ordering numbers. We will also discuss strategies for collecting information and different ways to record numerical information.
PSED- Personal, Social, Emotional Development
Throughout this term we will focus on developing the children’s confidence and sense of independence as we prepare for their transition into Year 1 in September
UW – Knowledge and understanding the World
This week we will be learning about life under the sea and how the sea can be useful to us.
