Book Focus: Non Fiction text: The Life cycle of a butterfly
The children will learn about the development and growth of a caterpillar from egg to butterfly. They will also learn about the main differences between a fiction and non-fiction text.

Please continue to write a comment in your child’s yellow reading diary and let us know how they are getting on with their reading at home.
Please note that we now change reading books and check word lists on specific days for each group. If your child is not in school on the day specified, we will change their books and check their word list on the day they return. PHONICS:
Please continue to practise sound recognition with your child using the video links provided in previous blogs. Encourage them to apply their phonic knowledge every time you read or write with them.
MATHS:
We will continue to review counting forward and back to 20 and beyond. This week the concepts of addition and subtraction will be presented through practical challenges in the continuous provision environment. The children will be encouraged to use a range of resources to solve problems related to addition and subtraction.

Book Focus: The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
The children will read this charming book about an adorable caterpillar which changes as it grows. They will learn to recall and sequence the main events in the story, creating a story map and making predictions about how the story might end.
UW – Knowledge and understanding the World/ PD- Health and Self Care
As the children immerse themselves in the adventures of the main character from the story of The Hungry Caterpillar, we will discuss aspects of growing and changing as well as the importance of making healthy food choices.

WORD LISTS
Please be reminded that we now only check key word lists on a weekly basis (on the same day that they change their reading books)
MATHS:
This week we will focus on counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10. We will review what the children have learnt about the concepts of doubling and halving through practical challenges in the continuous provision environment.
