  • Drop off your child at 8.45am. Please ensure your child is in school on time as they will start an Early Morning Activity as soon as they arrive. Please note that if your child is late into school, they miss out on essential learning experiences.
  • Pick up your child promptly at 3.15pm. If you have children in the older year groups, please pick up your Reception child first as they finish school earlier than your older children [/dropshadowbox]

SUMMER TERM 1 TOPIC: Amazing Animals

THIS WEEK’S LEARNING

LITERACY: Literacy this term will  focus on developing the children’s ability to:

  • blend to read with accuracy and fluency.
  • demonstrate understanding of what they have read by answering questions about the texts they read
  • use their phonic knowledge to spell and write words phonetically
  • to begin to spell some high frequency words correctly eg. the, my, he, she, we, said,
  • create and write their own ideas as sentences which can be read by themselves and others

Focus Book: Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin Jr and Eric Carle. This term we will explore several books by the author and illustrator Eric Carle.

MATHS:

  • discuss and practise strategies for counting larger sets that can or cannot be moved
  • count things that cannot be seen – actions and periods of time
  • make or represent their own collections of larger amounts.
  • practise counting on from a given number

UW: To develop an understanding of different types of animals and to sort them by groups eg. pets, wild animals, farm animals, etc.  This Monday, the children will join Key Stage 1 for a special assembly about the significance of Stephen Lawrence Day

RHE: Relationships: To identify some of the jobs I do in my family and how I feel like I belong

PE:  Indoor and Outdoor Team Games: Using equipment safely, sending and receiving equipment.

  • To explore properties of 3D shapes
  • To compare similarities and differences between 2D and 3D shapes
  • To create and explain numerical patterns

UW: To understand the significance of the following religious events: Ramadan for Muslims andeaster for Christians

PE:  Gymnastics: to explore travelling movements on feet using large apparatus (avoiding obstacles)
