SPRING TERM 2 TOPIC: Traditional Tales
LITERACY:
Book Focus: The Enormous Turnip
This classic Russian folk tale will be the focus for our learning this week. The children will enjoy enacting this wonderful story which highlights the benefits of teamwork.
MATHS: This week we explore the concept of money. The children will learn to recognise and name coins and notes used in the UK and also to solve practical problems involving money.
UW: We will be looking at different types of vegetables and discuss how plants grow and what they need to grow. The children will plant seeds to grow their own plants to take home and nurture.

Heroes and Villains
Who is your favourite hero and villain from the traditional tales you have learnt about? Can you draw a picture of your favourite hero and villain and write a few sentences to describe each one. e.g. in the story of Three Billy Goats Gruff, the villain was the troll and the hero was the biggest Billy Goat Gruff.

This enchanting tale will be the focus of our learning this week. The children will consider the different characters in the story and compare and contrast the characteristics of heroes and villains.
MATHS: This week we explore number lines, looking at what happens when we count on and back along a number line.
UW: We will discuss what plants need to grow, the children will plant bean seeds to grow their very own beanstalk[/dropshadowbox]

We have been reading the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. At the end of the story the troll who lived under the bridge was never seen again. What do you think happened to the troll? Where did he go? What did he do next? Why did he never come back to live under the bridge again? Draw a picture and write your own sentences about what you think happened to the troll.
