[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”raised” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#fffffff” border_width=”15″ border_color=”#5df1ed” ]Here’s how you could help us:
• The doors to Reception will be opened by staff at 8.50am and again at 3.30pm. Please help us by waiting for the doors to be opened by staff. This is to ensure the safety of all our children. Please note that Sherwood Breakfast Club will lead Howard pupils through the doorway first so we kindly ask that you keep the children away from the central door until it is safe to walk through.
• We ask that you support your child’s growing independence by allowing them to enter the classroom by themselves, so please say a quick goodbye to them in the hallway before they enter the classroom.
• Please keep the class doorway area clear as you drop off your child so that other children arriving after you may enter the classroom too.
• Baby buggies must be left outside and not brought into the hallway as this is a very busy area in the mornings.
• Please report any absence or leave requests directly to the school office as they require this information for administrative purposes. They will then inform us if your child will be away. [/dropshadowbox]

This week’s homework
Numbers in the environment
Can you look for numbers in your house or when you are outdoors over the weekend? Which numbers can you spot?
• Ask your adult to take a photo of you next to a number in your environment and stick it in your homework book. Eg. your door number. (Note to parent: If you don’t have access to a printer you could help your child to draw a picture of themselves next to a number in the environment eg. a bus with a number on it)
OR
• You might find numbers on other things like a ticket or a shopping list that you could also stick in your book. (please don’t fill any more than 2 pages in your book) [/dropshadowbox]

The children have had a wonderful first week and are beginning to settle into the routines of their school day. They really enjoyed meeting each other and it was great to see their confidence grow with each new day.
Last week the children made their own coat peg labels so please look out for their names as you enter the cloakroom area. Please show your child how to hang up their coats. We encourage independence so please allow them to have a go at doing this on their own with a little help where necessary. You could also do this by showing your child how to place their bookbag into the green boxes by themselves and to carry their own water bottle into class and place it in the boxes provided(near the sink area).
We would also like to thank you for your patience and understanding during our two week staggered entry programme which is aimed at ensuring your child makes a smooth transition from Nursery to Reception. If you have any questions, please come and talk to us.
We wish you well for your second week with us.
Kind Regards,
Miss Pillay, Mrs Crooks, Miss Thompson and Mrs Carden[/dropshadowbox]
