Week beginning 2nd October 2017
Thank you to those of you who attended our Year Two parent workshop last Thursday. We hope that you found it informative. If you have any concerns or questions then we are always here to help.
We will be covering the following objectives during the week commencing 2nd October 2017.
Writing
We are almost ready to write our own stories based on The Enormous Turnip. Then we will be thinking about the editing process in order to self-assess our work and make our writing as good as possible!
After that we will be moving on to writing persuasive letters to a circus which is linked to our topic ‘The Circus is Coming to Town’. We have already had a look at how circuses have changed over time and the way in which some circuses mis-treat animals which will form the basis of our letters.
Phonics/ SPaG
We are continuing to recap phase 5 alternative graphemes and spelling patterns during daily phonics sessions. We will also be consolidating using the past tense and looking at the four different sentence types: commands, statements, questions and exclamatory sentences.
Reading
We will be doing guided reading every week. This helps us to form part of our reading assessment data. We will be completing reading assessments over the next fortnight to check that your child is on the correct book band!
Our class read is The Twits by Roald Dahl. It has proven to be a hit so far!
Maths
Our focus this half term is on number and place value. We will be comparing numbers using less than (<), greater than (>) and equal to (=). We now have a big emphasis on reasoning and problem solving in every lesson. The children are already becoming much more confident and independent using the maths mastery approach.
Topic
Our topic this half term is The Circus is Coming to Town. There are many links to science, history and geography within this. We are all agreed that being part of a circus sounds very exciting!
PE
PE is on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon.
Monday: pilates.
Wednesday: ball skills.
RE
We will be looking at why things are special to people. This will be taught by our PPA teachers on a Thursday morning.
