Hungerford1

Welcome to Hungerford Bridge Class.

Class teacher: Miss Agyemang

Teaching assistant: Ms Jones

Week beginning Monday 4th February

February 4, 2019

Writing

This week we will be sorting information from the text in the style of a non-chronological report. We will also be interviewing one another in the role of experts on particular animals. This will provide the children with the opportunity to orally state facts which we hope will transfer into their writing. We will also be answering questions about the story. These will be a variety of retrieval questions (where the answer is in the text) and choice questions (where the children form their own opinion.)

Reading

Our current class read is The Hodgeheg by Dick-King-Smith.

Maths

We will be finishing our work on shape and space this week. Our learning objectives include counting vertices on 3d shapes, sorting 3d shapes and making patterns with 3d shapes.

We will also be completing a short assessment on division (our previous maths unit) and recapping calculating strategies on Friday.

History

We are learning about Pablo Picasso.

Science

We will be continuing our work on plants.

PE

We are excited to have some students from Archbishop Tennison’s learning to lead PE/ games and activities as part of their Sport’s Leader’s Initiative. They will be working with us for the next 6 weeks.

Week beginning 28th January

January 28, 2019

Writing

This week we will be moving onto writing chronological reports. We will be using Dr Xargle’s Book of Earhtlets as a stimulus for our writing. It is a story about humans written from the perspective of an alien and is very funny!

The children will be designing their own aliens. As usual, we will also have a strong focus on new vocabulary from the text. For example: unravel, disguise and atmosphere. There are also lots of fun, nonsensical words and phrases e.g eggmangle, hole in your face and beddybyebyes.

The purpose of our learning over the next two weeks will be to write a non-chronological reports about aliens.

Reading

Our new class read will be The Hodgeheg by Dick-King-Smith. We will be doing lots of reading comprehension style activities based on the text in preparation for the SATs in May.

Maths

We have now moved onto shape and space. This week we will be consolidating our knowledge of 2d shapes by sorting them according to their properties (sides and vertices) and making patterns.

Your children need to have a strong understanding that 2d shapes are the same shape, even if they have been rotated to different orientatWions. We have sent shape word mats home and would appreciate if you could practice spelling the shape names and discussing their properties with your child.

Towards the end of the week we will be focusing on 3d shapes and their properties. 3d shapes have two or more vertices or one vertex. Please be aware that a cone does not have a vertex, it has an apex instead. This is because the curved surface meets. A vertex is where the edges of two flat faces meet.

History

We are learning about Pablo Picasso.

Science

We will be continuing our work on plants.

PE

We are excited to have some students from Archbishop Tennisons learning to lead PE/ games and activities as part of their Sport’s Leader’s Initiative. They will be working with us for the next 6 weeks.

Important information

This week we are holding the maths workshop on Thursday 31st January. THIS IS A REPEAT OF THE CALCULATING WORKSHOP WE HELD IN DECEMBER LAST YEAR. It would be great to see you all there! J
