Week beginning 20th November

WHITGIFT PRIMARY PROJECT.

This week’s learning will be taking place at Whitgift school.  The children will have some amazing opportunities to develop their computing skills, experiencing programmes including Microbit, Animation shop, Photoshop, Scratch and GoRobo.  The children will also have a PE lesson, a foreign language lesson and a practical Science lesson which the children in previous years have thoroughly enjoyed.

All children will need a packed lunch everyday as well as their PE kit in school and their best manners.  We are visitors at their school for the week and poor listening and behaviour are not tolerated by the teacher in charge of the project.  The children will come to school as normal and we will walk over to Whitgift at about 9.30am.  The children will be back in school by 2.30pm so will be able to be collected as usual.

Previous Year 6 classes have thoroughly enjoyed the week and have got a lot of it so I am hoping that this class will too.

A very big thank you to all of you who donated presents for the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes.  They are being wrapped this week and sent of in the next couple of weeks.  I know they will very much be appreciated.

Don’t forget to donate any bottle you have for the tombola stall at the Christmas Fayre on the 9th December.  It would be lovely to see as many Year 6 children as possible.

Congratulations to all those who received a merit card and a Privilege Card this week.  Keep up the hard work.

Please continue to keep your Children’s University passport up to date with activities you did over half term.
The Children’s University is an amazing programme that encourages your child to take part in a wide variety of activities both in and outside school that will enrich their lives and give them access to activities they wouldn’t usually have.  We would like as many children in Year 6 as possible to purchase a Children’s University passport (£2 from Miss Handley) and start collecting stamps.  Clubs that they participate in both in school and outside school will stamp their passport and once they have received 30 stamps they will be recognised at a formal graduation ceremony.  Children in the past have met the Mayor of Croydon at this event and other important people within the community.

It is a great way for children to develop more than just academic skills and be recognised for all the extra-curricular activities that they do.  This can include sports clubs, drama clubs, arts and crafts clubs, brownies, scouts, volunteering with the Lily Trust at school, supporting the school with whole community projects and many more.

Make sure your child has their bike in school if they have signed up to the Bike ability course this week and have had their bikes checked.

Congratulations to all the children who received their first WOW (Walk Once a Week) badge from the JTA.

Thank you to all the children who entered the Bully Buster badge competition.  The winning design will be announced soon.

Congratulations to Oliver who received a Merit card this week for the amazing additional work he has done at home to help him learn more about the Science work they are covering in class.
