Welcome all Year 6 parents and pupils.

  I am Miss Mayley, the Year 6 class teacher, and our TA is Mrs Thambiayah.

Week beginning 20th March

March 16, 2017

This week we will be focusing on:

Maths-Solving problems to do with ratio and proportion

Reading-We will be continuing our class reading book-Holes by Louis Sachar.  We are learning how to skim and scan the text for key information and summarise what has happened too.

Writing-We will be writing a letter, persuading people to reduce, re-use and recycle their rubbish

Science-We will be completing our work about micro-organisms.

Topic-We will be continuing to look at World War 2 with a focus on the Blackout

PE-Swimming has now finished for Year 6 on Tuesdays.  Instead we will have an additional PE lesson in school.

PSHE-This week we will be looking a friendships and how to resolve problems that may occur.

Our English homework includes practising the Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling questions as well as writing in our writing journals.

We also need to make sure our Reading Passports are being completed as there are exciting prizes up for grabs.

We will also be continuing to read  ‘The Zone’.  This book is based in Nazi-occupied Britain.  Will Lizzie and Jack get the vital parts for the code-breaking machine to the Resistance?

Don’t forget we also need to complete Mathletics, Spellodrome and reading every evening.

Additional Information:

Congratulations to all the children who completed the SumDog maths competition.  I don’t know the final results but the child with the most points will be receiving a prize.

A group of children will be lucky enough to attend the WE day concert on Wednesday 22nd at Wembley Arena.  It

On Wednesday 22nd March some of us will be lucky enough to attend the WE day concert at Wembley Arena.  There will be an early start-7.10am meet at School and we wont be back until 5pm but it should be a great opportunity to hear some of the amazing stories people tell of bravery, kindness and care for others.

Friday 24th March-Red Nose Day.  Children are encouraged to wear something red to school- weather that’s a t-shirt, socks or hairbands.  They will then donate £1 which will be sent to charities supported by Red Nose day.  We will be fundraising in our own special way the week after.
