This week, we shall be visiting the Croydon Grants cinema on Friday 19th November to see the film Onward. The children will be back for lunch.
What are we learning this week?
Maths –
- To identify and explain the most efficient way to solve a calculation
- To add and subtract numbers with up to seven digits using column addition and subtraction
- To explore and explain different written and mental strategies to solving addition and subtraction problems
- To solve addition and subtraction problems and explain whether a mental or written strategy would be most efficient
English –
This half term, our English lessons shall be centred around the core text Rose Blanche. Our weekly objectives include:
- I can write a war poem.
- I can draw and annotate an illustration.
- I can use free-frames to thought track.
- I can respond to illustrations.
Our class reading book is Holes, by Louis Sachar. Throughout the week, we shall be completing comprehension-based tasks on key chapters and events.
Science –
- I can identify light sources.
History –
We shall be continuing our learning about the Kingdom of Benin. This week, we shall specifically be learning about:
- Trade
- The end of the Kingdom
- Benin Bronzes
- A modern-day comparison
RHE-
Our learning objectives this week are:
- To know that there are universal rights for all children but for many children these rights are not met.
- To understand my own wants and needs and can compare these with children in different communities.
PE –
Our PE days are as follows:
QE2 – Tuesday and Thursday
Tower – Tuesday and Friday
Please make sure your child comes to school wearing their full PE kit.
What are we learning this week?
Maths –
- To explain how to compare up to eight-digit numbers
- To use their knowledge of the composition of seven-digit numbers to solve problems
- To add and subtract mentally without bridging a boundary (only one and more than one digit changes)
- To add numbers whilst crossing the millions boundary
- To subtract numbers whilst crossing the millions boundary (multiples of 100,000 and different powers of 10)
- To explain how a seven-digit number can be composed and decomposed into parts
- To identify and explain a pattern in a counting sequence
English –
