Year 6 hold two minute silence to mark Armistice Day 2020

Armistice Day 2020 - Horowhenua District Council

Armistice Day was on 11 November and is also known as Remembrance Day.

It marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918.

Year 6 stood in a circle together after their break time on the 11th November, at 11 o’clock, to hold a two-minute silence to remember the people who have died in wars.

What are we learning this week?

 

English – We shall we starting our new Power of Reading text, Rose Blanche! This week we shall be engaging in book talk b y responding to illustrations and using drama activities to gain an understanding of different people during Nazi Germany.

Maths – our learning objectives for this week are:

  • I can convert fractions into decimals
  • I can find fractions of amounts

History – As the 11th November is Remembrance Day, we shall be marking this occasion using art and silhouettes. In guided reading, we shall be exploring war poetry and why the 11th November is significant.

Science – We shall be planning our investigation to see what affects the brightness of a bulb.

PE – PE continues on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children need to come in to school wearing their PE kit and their Howard Primary School jumper.

Computing – We shall be finishing our learning posters about our online safety learning – ready to display in the ICT suite! Our specific focus this half term has been dealing with cyberbulling and de-escalating digital drama.

RE – We shall be retelling the story of The Monkey King, using story maps.

Reading – For our class read, we shall be continuing the story of Pax – by Sara Pennypacker.
