Welcome all Year 6 parents and pupils.

  I am Miss Mayley, the Year 6 class teacher, and our TA is Mrs Thambiayah.

Maths – We shall be looking at fractions alongside their decimal and percentage equivalents.

English – 

We shall be continuing to look at The Pied Piper, this week. We shall be planning and starting to write a newspaper report based on the key events of the poem.

Science – Our topic this half term is Electricity. This week, we shall be looking at planning an investigation and looking at the importance of variables.

PE – Swimming lessons continue this week. Our Friday PE sessions will be taught by some local secondary school pupils, as part of our Sports Leader Alliance.

History – We shall be continuing to research about how Croydon was affected during WW2. We will also be writing diary entries as  a result of Mrs Bakka’s visit.Image result for croydon ww2Image result for walter tull

Music – This week, we will be learning to understand the criteria for a vocal performance – clear diction, good tone, dynamics, metre.

PSHE –  our learning objectives:

  • I can explain some of the ways in which one person (or group of people) can have power over another.

    I know some reasons why people use bullying behaviours.

RE –  Buddhism –  our learning objectives:

  • I can state what the Four Noble Truths are.

Maths – We shall be looking at add and subtracting fractions (including mixed  numbers).

English – 

We shall be starting our new unit, based on The Pied Piper. This week, we shall be focusing on unpicking the vocabulary and understanding the storyline. We shall also be creating character profiles and conducting a hotseating task.

Science – Our topic this half term is Electricity. This week, we shall be looking at planning an investigation and looking at the importance of variables.

PE – Swimming lessons return this week. Our Friday PE sessions will be taught by some local secondary school pupils, as part of our Sports Leader Alliance.

Computing – We shall be creating power points based on our Whitgift Primary Project Week.

Music – This week, we will be learning about song structure – introduction, chorus and instrumental verse.

  • I can understand how rumour-spreading and name-calling can be bullying behaviours.
  • I can explain the difference between direct and indirect bullying.

  • I can explain what Dharma is.
