Dear Parents,
Autumn 1 half term has been a pleasure getting to know your children and to see how they have settled so quickly into Year 1 class routines.
Welcome to Autumn 2 half term. Hope you had rest and ready for a busy and exxciting half term ahead. Our new Topic is ‘Sort It Out’.
Dates for the Diary:
  • Wednesday 6th November Local area walk- 9.15 to 10.30 am
  • SPaG & Handwriting Workshop – Tuesday 12th November at 9:00 am in the Dining Hall.
  • Friday 22nd November- Autumn Art Parent’s Drop-In, both classes 2.30 to 3.15 pm.
  • Tuesday 26th November- Maths workshop for parents-9.00am in the Dining Hall.
  • Tuesday 11th December KSI Christmas Play.

Our learning this week…

English

We will begin our new half term with recount writing-discussion about our half-term holiday, make a plan and then write and edit our recount writing. We will recap ‘Our Year I-Jumbo Targets’- capital letters, one finger space between words, a full stop at the end of a sentence, keywords spelt correctly. By the end of this week, we will be introducing ‘Poetry’- reading and performing ‘Autumn’ and ‘Fireworks’ poems.

Maths

We will be continuing our learning about subtraction. Children will use ten frames, part-part-whole, counters, cubes, numicons to develop their understanding of key concepts. Then we will be looking at 2D shapes.

Science

Children will be observing, discussing and then learn to describe changes across the four seasons.

 

RE

Hinduism – Children will be talking about ‘Diwali’ story and celebration- the festival of light. Children will be dressing-in traditional clothes, drawing ‘Rangoli’ patterns,  making divas with grains.

Art

We will be learning to draw Rangoli patterns using lines and shapes, making Diwali cards and divas.

PE

This term we will be discussing Real PE-‘Bike Ride’. Children recap showcase different ways of travelling and develop core body strength by balancing.

ICT

During ICT sessions, we will be learning to use technology purposefully to create, organise store and retrieve digital content-log on, type name and surname, change font, size, colour and type a sentence using capital letter, space and full stop. Children will watch Hector’s world episode 2.

History: We will be celebrating ‘Black History Month’. Our class will be talking about ‘Barack Obama’. Who is he? Why he is special? What did he do? Where did he live?

Phonics

Please continue to practice sound recognition with your child. Encourage them to apply their phonic knowledge every time you read or write with them.

Handwriting

We will be learning to form the numbers correctly and begin to learn the cursive script starting with the letters a, o, d.

We will continue our focus on our text – Lila and the secret of rain by David Conway. Children are familiar with the story and will write a character description. They will also make a story plan and write the story with key events in a sequence.

Maths

We will be continuing our learning about addition and subtraction.Children will use ten frames, part part whole, counters , cubes, numicons to develop their understanding of key concepts.

Science

Children will finish their learning about their body by writing a simple non-chronological report and by conducting a simple investigation.

RE

Children will be discussing and developing their understanding of being thankful as well as participate in celebrations during  Harvest Assembly on Thursday.

Art

In Art, we are learning about Line and tone and children will look at their face using a mirror and explore how to draw a self-portrait.

PE

This term we will be discussing about traveling. Children showcase different ways of travelling. Children will also develop core body strength by balancing.

ICT

During ICT sessions, we will be learning to log on and use a program as well as understand the main rules of e-safety using ‘Hector’ programs.

Phonics
