Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

Week Beginning 4th December 2021

January 4, 2021

Happy New Year and welcome to a new term.

Unfortunately it is not possible for us to begin the term working together in our classroom. For those children working at home, learning has been posted on Google Classroom together with a suggested timetable. This will be updated later in the week. Children in school will follow the same learning activities. Details of how to access Google Classroom can be found in the children’s homework diaries.

This week one teacher and one teaching assistant from the year 3 team will be working in school while the other teacher and a teaching assistant will support learning at home.

Learning will be based on the following topics;

  • In mathematics we will focus on place value.
  • In English we will learn to write a non-chronological report.
  • In science we will investigate rocks.
  • In geography we will learn about mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes.
  • In RE we will consider why it is important to care for our world.

Please contact us on year3@howard.croydon.sch.uk if you have questions about your child’s learning   or are unable to access learning on Google Classroom.
