Welcome to Westminster Bridge Class.
Class teacher: Mrs Ramakrishnan
Teaching assistant: Miss Dale
This week we will be covering the following learning objectives in:
Writing
The children will be finihing writing their own independent non-fiction book based on Dr Xargle’s. We will be focusing on editing and up-levelling our work to make corrections and improvements.
Reading
We have started a new class read: Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
We will also be doing some focused work using Key Stage 1 SAT style questions as a whole class.
Phonics/ SPaG
This week we will be focusing on adding suffixes to verbs.
EXAMPLES:
We will also be revising word classes e.g. understanding the use of nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs in sentences.
The children will be thinking about possessive apostrophe use. Here is a link to a useful website:

Maths
We are continuing with our focus on 2D shapes; looking at counting vertices, drawing 2D shapes, understanding lines of symmetry, sorting 2D shapes and making patterns with 2D shapes.
The children need to have a strong recall of shape names and understand their properties well including recalling numbers of sides & vertices and identifying lines of symmetry. The children must understand that although some shapes may be irregular they are still classed as a pentagon or triangle.
We will be focusing on these particular 2D shapes:
We will be moving onto look at 3D shape. The children should be able to count faces, vertices & edges using the correct vocabulary. It is important that children can recognise 3D shapes in real life situations e.g. a dice, cereal packaging, a ball, tubes and that they can also visualise them in their minds.
PSHE
We will be moving onto our next module of Zippy’s Friends: what makes a good friend? Please speak to your child about these sessions (which always take place on a Thursday afternoon).
P.E.
We are going to be doing dance on a Monday and doing circuit training on Thursdays.
Science
We are looking at differences between plants and animals and variation between animals. We will also be looking at seasonal changes.
History
We are continuing to do some work on Florence Nightingale and how she implemented changes in healthcare.
