A great big thank you to all the parents for all your support and help this year. It has enabled us to ensure that your child is able to develop, progress, attain , succeed and achieve their full potential. We wish you a lovely Summer break and a great year in Year 2.

School finish for children on Thursday 19th July and starts on Wednesday  5th September.

Lambeth Class will be in Hungerford Class with Miss Stroud.

Vauxhall Class will be in Westminster Class with Miss Brown.

The Year 2 Summer homework has been sent home with your child on Friday.

As part of our Arts Celebration Day we are making puppets and doing nature sculptures in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. Please send in leaves, twigs, shells, flowers rocks, pebbles for us to do this as well as socks, lolly sticks, eyes etc,, for the puppets. We will provide additional resources.

Our learning this week…

English

We will read the story ‘Lima’s Red Hot Chilli’ by David Mills, talk about characters, look at noun phrases, sentence structure, adjectives-describing words and sequencing the story. We will write a similar story by changing title, character’s name, problem.. using a similar pattern.  We will then edit the story.

Maths
This week we will be revisiting addition and subtraction and problem solving.

History
Children will continue to develop their understanding of the past. Let them talk to you or grandparents or older family members of how life was when they were young and begin to think about what life is for them especially relating to toys and games they play. ( For e.g doll house / marbles in the olden days and computer games in the modern times).

ICT
We are learning to create and debug programs. Please support your child to develop their skills by using ‘Lightbot’.

Art
Children will continue to learn about the British nature artist Andy Goldsworthy and create their own nature sculptures. Please bring twigs , leaves, flowers, pebbles by Monday. Thanks.

P.E
Children will continue developing their skills to balance as well as develop different types of movement. This week, the children will learn to develop their team spirit and positive attitude towards winning gracefully as well as accepting defeat as a way to improve their skills.

PSHE
Our topic is called ‘Relationships’. Children will be talking about feelings – how to deal with changes and transition.

Music
We will continue to sing using our voices creatively and learn about rhythm and tempo.

R.E.
We will be continuing our learning about different religions focusing on basic principles of Hinduism, Islam and Christianity.

Homework
Homework is sent home every Friday and should be promptly returned on Wednesday please. Homework is also set weekly related to the concepts children are learning. Please continue to do your Mathletics. Looking forward to more Gold Award winners this term.

*If your child attends an Afterschool sports club and takes their P.E kit home, kindly return the P.E kit the next day. A lot of the children have been upset and disappointed as they have missed their P.E sessions as a result of not having kits.
