Our learning this Half-term. It is called ‘Sort it out’ and focus mainly on our learning about materials. We also focus on Geography – where we live. This aspect focuses firstly on identify what Croydon is – a town and what it can offer – shops, hospitals, schools, restaurants, leisure facilities, different modes of transport etc… Here is an overview.

English
Learning Challenge 1
We continue our learning using our focus text, ‘The Storm Whale’. Children will sequence pictures to show their understanding of the story and the key events – beginning, middle, end.
They will also write a goodbye message to the whale – message in a bottle

We will introduce children to poetry focusing on Firework poems. We will watch firework videos, read a selection of firework poems focusing on identifying the poetic features like title, poet, stanzas, rhyming words, repetition, onomatopoeic words like Bang, Fizz, pop etc…

For mental starter we continue to count forward / back from different numbers, identify 1 more / 1 less than a number and order numbers to 20.
We will continue to learn to count with 1-1 correspondence .
We are also comparing numbers and identifying greater than / lesser than.

This week is AntiBullying week. Our slogan is ‘United against bullying’
We will discuss ‘what is bullying?’ and how we can differentiate between bullying and falling out. We will also talk about what are the different kinds of bullying – physical, verbal, emotional, e-bullying and talk about ways to be safe and get help.

This week Hindus all over the world celebrate Diwali – the festival of lights or Diwas. Children will learn about the significance of this festival and how it is celebrated by Hindus.
