THIS WEEK’S LEARNING:
LITERACY:
Book Focus: Traditional tales – Three Billy Goats Gruff.
The children really enjoyed role playing this story. They delighted in constructing pretend bridges across the classroom so they could act out their favourite scene from the story. They especially enjoyed composing imaginative sentences to describe the mean and nasty troll who lived under the bridge.
This week we will conclude our learning about this story by focusing on the where the story is set. We will paint pictures and write descriptive sentences about the place where the Billy Goats Gruff lived.
CAL- Communication and Language:
Word of the Week: Each week we will learn a new word. We will explore the meaning of the word and discuss other words that share the same meaning. To extend their vocabulary and develop their use of language, we will encourage the children to use these words when they speak and write.
This week’s WoW: tasty (delicious/scrumptious/yummy/juicy/mouth -watering)
eg The goats want to eat the juicy grass.
PHONICS:
We are currently revising Phase 3 digraphs/trigraphs – ch, sh, th, qu, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, air, ear, ure, er
Here is a video to practise reading words containing ch, sh, th, ng :

KEY WORD LISTS:
We are quite impressed with how well the children are progressing through their key word lists. Keep sending them in and keep up regular practise of the tricky words as these are words that can be easily forgotten. Regularly go back through previous lists to check that your child can still recognise the words learnt earlier on.
READING AT HOME
Please continue to write a comment in your child’s yellow reading diary and let us know how they are getting on with their reading at home
MATHS:
This week we will focus on the children’s use of everyday language and their ability to solve problems related to money as they explore the role play shop in the classroom.
UW – Understanding the World
This week we will introduce the concept of growth and changes over time by growing cress seeds and observing how they change over the course of the week. The children will be able to bring their cress plants home once fully grown.
