Week beginning 13th January 2020
The children, and all adults, thoroughly enjoyed our trip to see Goodnight Mister Tom at BFI Southbank last week. As well as watching the film, we took part in an interactive workshop looking at different aspects of WW2 – using literary film clips to support our learning.

Maths – We shall be looking place value over the next couple of weeks, including:
- Place value in 7-digit numbers (PV + and -, compare numbers)
- Add and subtract 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000 to/from 7-digit numbers
- Place 7-digit nos on number lines and round to the nearest 10,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000
- Calculate intervals across zero
English – This week, we shall be starting our new unit of Non-chronological reports. We shall be basing our learning this half term on our class text, Holes by Louis Sachar. This week, we shall be identifying and evaluating key features as well as editing and up-levelling an existing non-chronological report.
Science – We shall be continuing our topic of Light. We shall be planning and conducting an investigation to look at what affects the size of a shadow.
PE – Swimming returns this week. On Fridays, we shall be starting our new unit- boxercise.
Reading – We shall be continuing to read our class text, Holes. We shall be completing some skimming activities this week, as well as completing a past reading paper.
Geography – We shall be starting our new unit – learning all about Scandinavia. This week, we shall be using maps to locate countries and major cities.
History – We shall be learning about how the role of women changed during WW2.
Key dates – We shall be visiting Kew Gardens on Monday 3rd February 2020.
