Thank you to the following parents for coming to our first coffee morning last week: Rachel, Trina, Rahima, Stella, Fatima and Dinora.

We expect to receive your responses from the letter they sent to you on Friday and hopefully more of you will be interested in helping out and joining our Reception Parent Group.

Our first project is Fun Friday on the 17th November 2017. So please start sending in your donations of sweet and savoury baked treats to sell at our first Fun Friday event.

When donating food items to sell, please remember:

• Due to allergies and dietary requirements, any food you send in must not contain any nuts/nut products or pork

• If baked treats contain meat products eg samosas, please send with a label attached to say which type of meat it contains.

Thank you very much for your support.

AUTUMN TERM TOPIC: Light and Dark

LITERACY: Book Focus: Whatever Next? by Jill Murphy

The children have enjoyed acting out this story taking on the role of Baby Bear who goes on an adventure to the moon. This week, the children will recall and sequence the main events to retell the story.

Phonics:

This week’s sound focus: /c/, /k/, /ck/, /e/, /u/ and /r/

This week the children will learn their first digraph (2 letters which combine to represent one sound /ck/). So by Tuesday your child will learn 3 ways of representing the /k/ sound as c. k or ck. You may find that they will initially use any of these 3 letter forms to represent the /k/ sound.

Please keep the daily practice sheet at home and practise saying and writing the sounds until your child can confidently recognise and write each of them.

MATHS:

This week we will revise all numbers within the range 0-20. We will review strategies for counting reliably using concrete objects and pictorials. The children will also revise number formation of the numerals within this range. The children will learn to represent quantities of each number to 20 using tens frames

TOPIC – Knowledge and Understanding of the World:

The children are really enjoying our Space station role play area, dressing up as astronauts and planning space exploration trips to the moon. This week they will learn more about our solar system and develop their keen interest in the different planets.

PSED – Personal, Social, Emotional Development:

This week is Anti-Bullying Week. This year’s theme is: ‘All Different, All Equal’

In Reception, we will have a year group assembly and talk about what makes a person unique, discussing the concept of differences and how we can be respectful and tolerant of each other’s differences [/dropshadowbox]

Well done to all the children in Chelsea Class. We have now had 100% return of homework and every child in Chelsea now has their homework certificate for Autumn 1.

Please return homework by Wednesday

Remembrance Day: Who would you like to thank on Remembrance Day? Find or draw a picture about some of the different people who help us in our communities. Ask your adult to help you write a sentence about how they help us (eg. police/firefighters/nurses/doctors/paramedics, etc)

Books for home reading: By the end of this week your child will be issued with 2 books (a reading scheme book and a class library book). Please check your child’s yellow diary for a note about how to support your child with each of these books. Also, it will explain which day to return their books so it can be exchanged for a new book. [/dropshadowbox]
