Week beginning: 13th November 2018

We have a busy week ahead of us what with two trips to the cinema and the KS1 harvest performances which you have received information about.

Writing

Most of the children have written their persuasive letters. Those who have finished are going to be writing their improved versions neatly onto a template which we will then send off to PETA. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Phonics/ SPaG

We are continuing to recap phase 5 alternative graphemes and spelling patterns during daily phonics sessions. We will be looking at contractions e.g do not and don’t, was not and wasn’t.

Maths

We are still working on addition and subtraction. Our focus will be on adding and subtracting ones and tens. We are confident that all of the work we have done on number and place value will really support the children in their understanding.

We will also be looking at number bonds to 100.

Helpful information

From the 13th-17th November it is Anti-bullying week. We have been talking about this concept in class and will be doing more work on it. The main message we are trying to get across is that we are all different but we are all equal.

Our new topic this half term is People Of The Past. There are many cross-curricular links in this topic.

PE

PE is on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon.

Monday: we are continuing with pilates for now.

Wednesday: multi-skills.

RE

We will be looking at why things are special to people. This will be taught by our PPA teachers on a Thursday morning.

PSHE

We will be starting our new PSHE scheme: Zippy’s Friends. Our first module is ‘communication’.

ICT

We will be looking at how to use algorithms to program digital devices. We will also learn how to debug simple programs. We are hoping to use bee-bots in our lesson this week.

Key information

Reading books are changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We expect your child to read to you every evening and for this to be recorded in their reading record.
