Week beginning 19th February 2018
I hope that you’ve had a fantastic week off! We have a busy and exciting term ahead of us.
Our learning objectives for the first week back will be as follows:
Writing
We will be continuing to use Dr Xargle’s Book of Earthlets as a stimulus for our writing. This week we will be ‘reading as writers’. We will be using the following structure to help us to ‘box up’ the text.
The children will then be given the opportunity to design their own alien and spacecraft which will form the basis of their own non-chronological report. They will use the boxed up plan as a template and plan an innovation text.
Reading
Our next class read will be Charlotte’s Web by E.B White.
Phonics/ SPaG
We will not be doing phonics this week. Instead myself and Miss Brown are each going to be teaching the opposite class for the first hour of each day. We have found that mixing the children for phonics has been beneficial. It is something new that we are trialling to develop and enhance our professional practice and have a growing understanding of the cohort as a whole.
Maths
Miss Brown will be teaching the maths in 2H this week. We will be recapping using arrays. We will then be looking at multiplying by 2, 5 and 10.
Please have a look at this example of an array.
We can represent multiplication calculations as repeated addition. For example 8 x 2 is the same as 2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2 = 16.
PSHE
We will be continuing with Zippy’s Friends. We are looking at what makes a good friend. Please speak to your child about these sessions (which always take place on a Thursday afternoon).
P.E.
Monday: athletics.
Wednesday: circuits (planning/ peer teaching based on our prior PE sessions). Science
We are looking at differences between plants and animals and variation between animals. We will also be looking at seasonal changes.
