Week Beginning 1st October 2018

Writing

We will be continuing to focus on our first key text: Leon and the Place Between. It has strong links to our work on the circus.

This week we will be innovating the middle part of the story using a toolkit. We will be planning and then writing a new middle and end using our plans. We will be thinking about using lovely conjunctions and vocabulary to make our new stories interesting and creative.

SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)

We are consolidating work on contraction spellings.

We will be also using our knowledge of recently learnt SPaG to edit & up-level our work.

Reading

We are continuing our class read Fantastic Mr Fox. The class are really enjoying it so far!

Maths

This week we are starting a new unit on addition & subtraction. There will be a big focus on number bonds:

• number bonds for 10
• number bonds for numbers up to 20
• number bonds of 20

We will be learning about fact families e.g. how numbers are related. If I know that 3+17=20 then I also know 17+3=20, 20-17=3 and 20-3=17. We will be using bar models to understand this concept.

There is also a big focus on using inverse relationships to check calculations.

History

We are going to learn about Amy Johnson, a local historical figure. This week we will be writing fact files about her

Science

We will be looking at materials and their properties this half term.

PSHE

This week we will be looking at what makes a good friend.
