Week Beginning 26th February 2018

This week we will be covering the following learning objectives in:

Writing

We are continuing to use the focus text and will be thinking about ways in which the text can be changed.

The children will be writing their own non-fiction book based on Dr Xargle’s.

Reading

We have started a new class read: Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White

We will also be doing some focused work using Key Stage 1 SAT style questions as a whole class.

Phonics/ SPaG

This week we will be focusing on past and present tense; looking at irregular verb changes e.g. go/ went, sing/ sang, catch/ caught and adding the -ed suffix. We will also be looking at the ‘w’ special rule for spelling e.g. when a word sounds like it has /o/ but is spelt with an /a/. Examples of this rule are: wallet, wanted, wash, wasp.

Maths

We will be finishing our focus on division with understanding dividing by 2, 5 and 10.  The children need to have a strong and quick recall of these facts and be able to link them to multiplying by 2, 5 and 10. The depth of understanding comes from the knowledge that the facts are related e.g. if I know that 5×10=50 then I also know that 10×5=50 and 50 divided by 10 is 5 and vice versa.

By the end of the week we will be moving on to look at 2D and 3D shape- recapping our recognition of various shapes and understanding some simple properties.

PSHE

We will be moving onto our next module of Zippy’s Friends: what makes a good friend? Please speak to your child about these sessions (which always take place on a Thursday afternoon).

P.E.

We are going to be doing dance on a Monday and doing circuit training on Thursdays.

Science

We are looking at differences between plants and animals and variation between animals. We will also be looking at seasonal changes.

History

We are continuing to do some work on Florence Nightingale and how she implemented changes in healthcare.

DON’T FORGET!!

Thursday 1st March is World Book Day and the children can come to school dressed as their favourite book character.
