Week beginning 30th October 2019

English – Writing
We are continuing to work with Leon and the Place Between by Grahame Baker-Smith. The children will be using their portal story toolkit in order to write their own portal story. After writing their stories the children will edit and up level their work.
We will encourage the children to check if they have included powerful verbs, adverbs, adjectives and conjunctions within their writing
English- reading
We have started our whole class read: Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. We will also be learning some new reading skills as a whole class using ERIC. The children will build their repertoire of different reading skills through the year.

Maths 

We are  starting the addition and subtraction block.

  • to know number bonds within 20 & understand fact families

  • to compare number sentences

 

  • Number bonds are also often referred to as ‘number pairs’. They are simply the pairs of numbers that make up a given number.  Knowing number bonds with confidence allows children to develop strategies for solving more complicated mental problem.

  History
We will continue our learning about Amy Johnson. The children enjoyed sharing their knowledge about Amy Johnson.  They added their facts into a fact file and used adventurous vocabulary. This week we will send our family a postcard telling them all about our solo expedition! We looking forward to sending them.
Science
We will be sorting materials according to their properties.
ICT
Our ICT slot is on Tuesday afternoon. Last week we enjoyed a session of coding. this week we will continue to explore programming. We are the programmers of the future!
Music 

Ministrings will continue every Wednesday. This week we will play some instruments that belong in the string family.

PE
Our PE slot is on Monday afternoon.
Please ensure all children have their full PE kit in school (fully named).
PSHE
We have introduced the children to a programme called Zones of Regulation which we are hoping will help regulate feelings and emotions and offer the children the correct way to talk about their feelings. This week  we will continue to  think of suitable ways to regulate their feelings.
