This week’s learning
LITERACY
Book Focus: Whatever Next by Jill Murphy
The children will enjoy this wonderful story about a little bear’s adventure to the moon, developing their understanding of the story through role play activities. We will read and discuss the key events using sequencing vocabulary such as ‘First, Then, Next, Last’ or ‘At the end’.
Phonics: /i/, /n/, /m/ /d/ and /g/
Please keep sound sheet at home and continue to practise saying and writing these sounds every day. As your child continues to learn more letter sounds they may forget the earlier sounds taught so it is important to practise daily recognition and writing (using each of the sound cues eg /a/ - round the apple , down the leaf)
MATHS: This week the children will be learning to:
• explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.
• recognise, create and describe patterns • use mathematical names for ‘flat’ 2D shapes, and mathematical terms to describe shapes
• select a particular named shape
Knowledge and Understanding of the World: The children will begin to learn about aspects of space exploration as they become more familiar with the focus book Whatever Next . Later this week we will also discuss the significance of Remembrance Day .
Communication and Language: To listen to others one to one with increasing attention and recall [/dropshadowbox]

Take some time this weekend to look up at the sky when it becomes dark outside. What do you see? Can you draw a picture about what you see? Ask an adult to help you write labels for your picture (eg. fireworks/ the moon/stars/aeroplane lights flickering)
READING BOOKS
Please read with your child and write a comment in the yellow reading diary. Please keep both reading books and yellow diary in your child’s bookbag after each reading.
Please note that if reading books have been lost, they will need to be replaced. [/dropshadowbox]
