Week Beginning 6th November 2017

This week we will be covering the following learning objectives in:

Writing

We will be using our persuasive letter plans (which went very well 🙂 ) to write our letters to the circus.

We will then be moving on to looking at the story of The Gunpowder Plot. We will learn the story and be able to retell it to our friends.

Phonics/ SPaG

We are continuing to recap phase 5 alternative graphemes and spelling patterns. We will also be looking at how to spell high frequency words and improving simple sentences by adding adjectives and connectives.

We will be focusing on synonyms within our writing to make it more interesting.

Reading

Our class read is Pippi Longstocking. We will be thinking about what has happened so far in the story, making predictions about what might happen and clarifying new words and their meanings.

We will also be completing a reading comprehension on Bonfire Night. We need to think carefully about what the questions are asking us.

Maths

We will be looking at addition and subtraction. We will be focusing on relationships between 1’s and 10’s e.g. if I know that 3+5=8 then I can work out that 30+50=80.

We will also be looking at understanding 10 more and 10 less of any given number in preparation for adding and subtracting 10’s before we move on to adding 1’s to 2-digit numbers crossing the 10’s boundary.
