Dear Parents

Do you have any time to spare? Would you be interested in helping us to improve our Early Years outdoor area? Do you have any carpentry, DIY or fundraising skills? (These are not essential but would be an added bonus). If you are interested, please come to a short coffee morning on Wednesday 8th November at 9.00am to find out how you could be of assistance. Please let us know if you will be able to attend.

Kind regards

Miss Pillay[/dropshadowbox]

AUTUMN TERM TOPIC: Light and Dark

LITERACY:

Book Focus: Whatever Next? by Jill Murphy

Following a shared reading of the book we will discuss the key events and characters in this wonderful story. The children will learn to use vocabulary such as ‘First, Then, Next, Last’ or ‘At the end’. They will further develop their understanding of the story through role play activities. This week, the children will write labels for pictures from the story using their knowledge of initial sounds.

Phonics: This week’s sound focus: /n/, /m/, /d/, /g/ and /o/

Please keep the daily practice sheet at home and practise saying and writing the sounds until your child can confidently recognise and write each of them

Maths: This week we will focus on counting reliably with numbers from 16 to 20 using concrete objects and pictorials. The children will learn how to represent these numbers as numerals and to order these numbers along a number line from 0-20. The children will learn to use a range of resources to support their understanding of numbers within 20.

Early Morning Work: the children will continue with their morning routine of practicing letter formation.

TOPIC: Knowledge and Understanding of the World:

  • This week we will introduce our Space theme and explore the children’s understanding of concepts about Space Exploration. Through exploration in the class role play areas they will learn about astronauts and the work they do.
  • We will also discuss the significance of Remembrance Day and why people wear a red poppy. We will also discuss why it is important to consider and remember the people who help us. [/dropshadowbox]

Take some time this weekend to look up at the sky when it becomes dark outside. What do you see? Can you draw a picture about what you see? Ask an adult to help you write labels for your picture (eg. fireworks/ the moon/stars/aeroplane lights flickering)

Congratulations to all the children who received a certificate for completing their homework each week last term!!  The children have delighted in sharing their lovely work with the class each week. Please continue to send in homework by Wednesday so your child can receive another certificate at the end of this term too.

Class library books: Please remember to keep your child’s library book and yellow diary in their book bag. Books will be changed on any day next week [/dropshadowbox]
