Week beginning 7th May 2018
Reminder: Monday 7th May is a bank holiday and the school is closed! Enjoy the long weekend and make the most of the (hopefully) glorious weather.
We will be covering the following objectives next week.
Writing
We have begun to write our own losing tales and will be finishing and up-levelling our work.
Our next focus will be on poetry. We will be using The Magic Box by Kit Wright as a stimulus for our poems.
Reading
Our current class read is Why the Whales Came by Michael Morpurgo.
Maths
We have come to the end of our work on measure and will be moving onto time.
In year 2 we cover:
We will be covering the following learning objectives.
- Telling the time to the hour (o’clock).
- Telling the time to half past.
- Quarter past and quarter to.
- Telling the time to five minute intervals (e.g five past two/ five to 12).
- Knowing key facts about time e.g how many hours in a day, days in each month, months in a year.
- Applying our knowledge of time to solve problems. Please see some examples of time related problems below.
You might also come across problems such as:
“Joan’s swimming class started at 5:40 and lasted for 30 minutes. Draw the hands on the clocks to show what time her class started and finished.”
Please practice telling the time at home with your children. It is an important life skill that needs lots of practice in order for your child to be secure in it.
PSHE
Zippy’s Friends- our current unit is titled ‘Saying Goodbye’. There will be a letter going out shortly regarding a proposed trip.
P.E
Monday: basketball.
Wednesday: skipping skills.
