Maths:
Over the next few weeks, we shall be learning all about percentages and how to find their fraction and decimal equivalents.
English:
We shall be focusing on retelling the first chapter of Alice in Wonderland. We shall be looking at developing story maps and creating character profiles for the main character.
Reading:
Children should be reading at home every evening. They are expected to complete a book review, using the Y5 grammar expectations, once completed. If they don’t already, please encourage your child with their reading at home as it is hugely important. We shall soon be starting our new class novel, Alice in Wonderland. You can purchase a copy here.
PE:
Your children will have taken a letter home on Thursday 22nd February, detailing which swimming group that they are in. Below is a reminder of the key dates and swimming kit that they will need.
Group A Tuesday 27th February-Tuesday 27th March
Group B Tuesday 17th April-Tuesday 22nd May (No swimming on the 15th May)
Group C Tuesday 5th June – Tuesday 3rd July
Please can you make sure that they bring a swimming costume (preferably NOT a bikini for girls and NOT long shorts for boys), towel and, if they have long hair, a swimming hat all in a bag that can be easily identifiable. Children will be taught how to swim by 2 qualified swimming instructors including a teacher from Whitgift school and no prior knowledge of how to swim is needed. Children will be assessed the first week and then put into suitable groups with no child entering the deep end unless they can swim a length unaided. A trained lifeguard will also be present.
Children who are not going swimming during this time will still have a PE lesson. All children will continue to have their Thursday PE lesson.
Music:
We shall be continuing our Soundstart lessons with Mr Regan.
Art:
We shall be designing a class tablecloth, representing Greek patterns, using the paste resist process. This week, we shall be tracing our designs onto cloth, using paste to repeat our designs.
