We would like to thank you for following the revised entry and exit times as this has really helped to extend the learning time for our Reception classes. Teaching now begins promptly at 9.20 once all children are in. So, please ensure your child is in school by this time.

Please note that  Monday, 9th November is an INSET Day for staff. The children will return to school on Tuesday 10th November at their usual start times.

We have noticed that many of you have not yet signed up to Google Classroom. If you have been experiencing any technical problems with setting this up, please contact Miss Pillay at reception@howard.croydon.sch.uk. Also, there are a few more parents who need to sign up to Tapestry. Please contact us, so we can assist with getting you connected.

The first homework for Reception classes was posted on Google Classroom on Friday 6th November. Well done to the children who have already submitted their homework. For those who have not yet seen the homework, please sign into your Google Classroom account and submit the homework via Tapestry. Reception homework will be posted every Friday to be completed by the following Wednesday at the latest. Reception homework usually involves fun practical tasks which you can do together as a family. Photos of tasks can be posted on Tapestry, so these can be added to your child’s learning journal.

Kind Regards,

Reception Team

HOW WE COMMUNICATE WITH YOU:

We use several means to keep you informed about important events, changes and what to expect about your child’s learning. We encourage you to be involved in your child’s learning by accessing any of the following ways of keeping in touch with us.

  1. TALK TO US: At the beginning and end of each day, briefly.
  2. THE CLASS BLOGS: Here you will find messages to parents about the week ahead and a summary of the learning that your child will experience in class. The Blog is updated every Sunday for the week ahead.
  3. THE SCHOOL TEXT SERVICE:  Important messages from the school will be sent via short text messages directly to the mobile number you have provided to the school.
  4. THE SCHOOL EMAIL SERVICE:  Important letters and other information that may be too lengthy to send via text, will be sent via email to the email address you have provided.
  5. YEAR GROUP EMAIL: Email from your child’s classteacher or Early Years Lead will be sent from reception@howard.croydon.sch.uk. You may also send emails to this address for anything that relates to your child’s learning and wellbeing.
  6. GOOGLE CLASSROOM

Google Classroom is an online classroom area which allows us to share information with you. On this platform you can expect to see:

  • Helpful videos and information for parents about how to support your child at home with their learning such as how to support your child with Phonics.
  • Useful educational videos for children to practise and enhance their learning
  • Homework tasks posted every Friday. You can submit responses via photograph submission on Tapestry. Due date is by the following Wednesday.
  • Remote Learning: Only to be completed if your child has long term absence from school such as in the case of isolation due to Covid-19.

6. TAPESTRY

Tapestry is an online journal app, which allows you to view images and comments about your child’s learning in class. You may also add your own images and comments about your child’s learning at home. You can add any homework completed as a photo to your child’s Tapestry online journal.

If you are experiencing difficulties accessing any of the above, please let us know as soon as  possible so we can get you connected. Also, check your spam or junk mail folders and set your emails from school or year group emails as ‘important’ to ensure you do not miss important messages.
