Week commencing 6th December

Wow, it is nearly Christmas already and we have had an amazing time with our learning so far! We still have plenty of fun things to do as well, beginning with a trip to the library on Wednesday to watch a Christmas play performed by students from the Brits School. We can’t wait!

Here’s what we will be learning next week:

English- We will be continuing to build vocabulary and reading skills in our grammar lessons on Monday and Friday. The focus for grammar this weekthe suffix -dis; in our reading skills, we are looking at meanings of words and synonyms. Our class text is Into the Forest by Anthony Browne and we are working on descriptive writing, we will be beginning to write our own versions of the story with our own innovations added.

Our class read is The Boy with the Bronze Axe by Kathleen Fidler.

We will be beginning to send home reading books on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for those children who have not already chosen them. Reading diaries should be brought to school each day.

Maths- We will be investigating and drawing polygons which contain right angles, counting in 4s and investigating how we can use this to solve problems.

If your child would like to practise their learning at home, there are lots of free games which they can use, including Daily 10 from Topmarks or Hit the Button

PE- We will be continuing to work on skipping and basketball skills this week.

RE- We are continuing our Hinduism topic, thinking about what Hindus believe and then looking at symbols and rituals.

Science- We will be continuing our topic of light, using torches to investigate how light is reflected from some surfaces and how shadows can be created.

Homework- We will post homework on Google Classroom each week. We have added tasks to Mathletics. Additionally, the children will have access to Language Angels to practise their new vocabulary in Spanish. We hope to give your child access to TTRockstars also this week, a fun way to practise times tables.

PE will take place on Monday and Tuesday for Blackfriars class and Tuesday and Thursday for Waterloo class. Children should come to school in their school PE kits on those days.

RHE- We are thinking about the impact of bullying and what we can do to prevent it.

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day.
