Welcome to Reception at Howard Primary School.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your children and wish you well for your first week with us in Reception. We look forward to meeting you and your child in person.

Stay and Play Sessions:
- If you have not yet given us a copy of your child’s birth certificate, please bring in the original birth certificate on Monday, so we can confirm the original and take a copy of it.
- Please do not drive into Dering Place. We advise walking to school or parking nearby and walking the rest of the way to school.
- Walk up to Dering Place towards the school main entrance. You should see a green flag, marking your entrance. Staff will be available to direct you further from this point.
- Please be prepared to wait in single file with at least 1m distance apart from the parent and child in front of you and keep to this as you are guided towards the Reception playground where you will be met by Reception staff.
- You may use the hand sanitiser provided along the footpath. You will also be able to wash your hands as you enter the classroom.
- You must stay with your child as they explore our setting. You may leave with your child at any point during your one hour allocated Stay and Play session.
- Adults are advised to wear a suitable face covering. Your child is not expected to wear a face covering.
- It is not essential for your child to wear their school uniform on Monday.
- As reminder of the allocated sessions, please attend the session that matches your child’s birth month as follows, arriving promptly at the start of the session, no earlier:
- 09.30 – 10.30: Children born in September, October, November or December 2015
- 11.30 – 12.30: Children born in January, February, March or April 2016
- 1.30 -2.30: Children born in May, June, July or August 2016
- Before you leave, please pick up your Welcome Pack with further information and a few documents to complete and return to us.

- Children to attend a MORNING or AFTERNOON session
- In your welcome pack you will find a reminder of which session your child will attend, either a morning or afternoon session.
- No lunch is provided during this week. Your child will receive a fruit and milk snack during their session. You will not need to send a packed lunch for your child as they will only be in school for a short period of time.

PE LESSONS:
- PE lessons will begin in the week beginning 21st September
- Reception children have PE once a week. We will let you know by the end of the week which day your child will have PE.
- Children must attend school in their PE kit, school shoes and school cardigan or jumper.
- Send their black plimsolls or PE trainers in their PE kit bag, which will stay at school for use during PE lessons.
- A spare set of clothes may also be stored in the PE kit bag.

SCHOOL ESSENTIALS:
Your child will be provided with all the equipment they need for learning at school. We kindly ask that you please ensure:
- Clearly labelled uniform items, coats, bookbags and PE kit.
- Named water bottle (plain water only please)
- A suitable coat for outdoor wear
- Children do not bring in anything else into school
- Bookbags do not have book bag tags/toys attached
